Placement auditions for the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Kaiserslautern County will held on 4. September in Landstuhl, with makeup auditions during the rest of the week (details below). These are informal auditions that help us recommend groups and sections to families, and also to choose appropriate music for our groups.
Because of our short timeline this year, we’re going to streamline the audition process a bit:
Only string players and new wind players need to schedule an audition.
Returning wind players do not need to re-audition for the coming year, but please email Dr. Reese to let us know that you plan to participate.
Audition requirements:
· One scale of your choice; play the most difficult scale you have mastered.
· Short prepared piece, demonstrating your technique and musicality. No accompaniment is required.
· We’ll do sight reading only as a tie-breaker for those competing for section leader positions.
On audition day, we will open doors at 1745 and start auditions promptly at 1800.
We will audition members in the order signed up; first arrived, first heard.
We understand that some families may be travelling during the labor day weekend. If your family won’t be back for the Monday evening auditions; don’t worry, you are still welcome to join us! If you can’t make our audition evening, please email Dr. Reese to arrange a make-up audition during that week (4-10 September). Options for make-up auditions include in-person auditions, a recorded video audition, or a livestream audition (via Zoom, Facetime, etc.). Audition requirements are the same.
First full rehearsal for all groups will be Monday, September 11.
